The Initiative for Policy Dialogue's task force on Africa is comprised of a mix of academics (both economists and political scientists), people from the international economic institutions, and governments. We held our second meeting in Manchester, U.K. on July 11 and 12, 2007.

In this meeting, participants presented drafts of papers that formed the basis of the discussion. Many of these papers will be developed for publication in a volume as part of the IPD book series. The topics covered include the inter-related and overlapping mix of: accelerating growth; the lessons of Asian experience; trade and industrial policy; the African developmental state; commodities and resource management; agriculture; the international agenda; and poverty and conflict.
