Indonesia was the country worst affected by the East Asian crisis, and after it adopted IMF stabilization and structural adjustment recommendations, it recovered relatively slower than the other crisis afflicted economies. In 2003, the country ended the IMF program and instituted the "Economic Policy Package Pre and Post-IMF," a white paper that outlaid policy goals for a post-IMF era.
By September 2004, 70% of the planned issues in the white paper had been realized and a new government took office. At this time of political change, IPD was invited to host a Country Dialogue, where participants evaluated economic policy issues confronting Indonesia, identified where the debate stood, and provided alternative ideas.
The Initiative for Policy Dialogue held its first Country Dialogue in Indonesia in December 2004. |

| Event: Dec 10, 2004 - Dec 14, 2004 |
| In December 2004, IPD held a Dialogue in Indonesia in conjunction with a Central Bank meeting, and helped formulate a new strategy for managing monetary policy. IPD met with H.E. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, and the State Minister of Development, among others. The team helped identify current debates and provide alternative ideas on how to combat corruption, increase bank lending in order to stimulate investment, create an infrastructure fund, and manage exchange rate and prudential regulation. |
