The task force on Africa is IPD's first task force with a regional rather than a thematic focus and is a response to the special challenges facing economic development and poverty in Africa after the disappointing performance of the past quarter century.  |

| The meeting to launch the Africa task force was held at the Brooks World Poverty Institute at the University of Manchester on August 3-4, 2006. The task force (a) laid out a policy-oriented research agenda; (b) determined what issues are to be addressed in formal papers to be written by task force members; and (c) finalized the composition of the task force. |
