Overview
Welcome to the Initiative for Policy Dialogue's resources for civil society representatives. IPD is dedicated to enabling wide civic participation in economic policy decisions through an open dialogue. We created this guide to help you navigate the website

IPD brings together experts from around the world to address key economic issues and to explore economic alternatives. IPD's cornerstone publications are our Task Force Overview Chapters. These easy-to-read volumes contain summaries of the surrounding debate and lay out the alternative views. They explain why there is so much disagreement on many of the issues, why so many current policies have failed, and share the latest ideas and research on alternative solutions. They are intended for both policymakers and civil society. In addition, task force companion volumes and working papers go into many topics in more detail. You can find these by browsing our Task Forces by topic or going directly to IPD Publications.

IPD also organizes Country Dialogues, which bring civil society groups together with academics, international financial institutions, policymakers, and NGOs in order to open the policymaking process up to scrutiny and broader participation. Widespread participation is also contingent on a well-informed public. IPD has developed a Journalism Program to help reporters write on economic issues in a clear and accurate manner. You can browse through our journalism pages, which have Backgrounders and Case Studies on topics of importance for journalists in developing countries.

Below are links to these and more resources on the IPD website.

Resources List/Suggestions for Civil Society
Task Forces
The Task Forces serve to provide the information needed to expand the discussion on economic policy in developing countries. Without pushing for any specific policy solution, the task forces present policymakers with a complete understanding of the economic situation and alternative policies needed to generate a competent policy.
Country Dialogues
IPD organizes Country Dialogues which are forums that bring together diverse stakeholders, including senior government officials, NGO's, academics, business communities, think tanks and the media.
Task Force Overview Chapters
The Task Force Overview Chapters are summaries our experts create for policymakers and other interested parties. They include an introduction to the issue, an examination of the debate surrounding it, and a summary of existing literature.
Journalism Program
This program is aimed at helping reporters cover finance and economics in developing countries. We have prepared material on how to cover important topics, from banking crises to privatization. IPD's Journalism Primer publishes both Backgrounders and Case Studies. In our workshops Journalists learn from experts in these areas, including academics, World Bank officials and NGO representatives. They also receive training in critical and analytic journalism, reporting fairly on diverse views, investigative reporting, and computer research skills from experienced journalists.
News/Opinions
The News/Opinions page contains links to news that relates to the IPD, as well as recent opinion pieces written by members of the IPD network about developments in the world economy. The page is updated often, so check it regularly for new postings.
