Impact of the Individual
Power of the Network
February 24, 2006
Lerner Hall, Columbia University
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Geraldine Laybourne, Chairman & CEO, Oxygen Media
Our 2006 conference theme is Impact of the Individual, Power of the Network. In a few words, we are advocating that a woman’s individuality - her unique combination of creativity, passion and skills - is the key to her success. But there is another essential element to a woman’s individual success, and that is her network. Many of us have, and will switch gears in the lifetime of our careers. We are looking for new direction, inspiration, or have crafted a master plan but need the help of others.
Who are these so-called “others”? They are often acquaintances, sometimes good friends, but more often than not, they are former colleagues, business school classmates, and friends of friends. You meet them at a PTA meeting, a CWIB conference or wine tasting events. They are all around. We believe that a great network benefits everyone and opens doors that would otherwise seem closed. With this theme in mind, the dynamic panels and workshops at this year's conference will provide you with usable takeaways for your professional and personal development.
The Annual CWIB Conference, which was co-founded by the Committee of 200 and CWIB, is an event that celebrates the accomplishments of women in business and addresses the ongoing challenges that career women face in the 21st century. The conference is attended by over 650 women ranging from business school students and alumnae to Fortune 500 executives. The conference features speeches by prominent business leaders who share their experiences, insights and advice on how to be effective leaders in today's world and how they managed the challenging transitions throughout their lives. Keynote speakers in previous years include: Susan Whiting (2005 keynote speaker), Dana Buchman (2005 keynote speaker), Katie Couric (2004 keynote speaker), Sallie Krawcheck (2003 keynote speaker), Abby Joseph Cohen, Heidi Miller, Ann Moore, Muriel Siebert, and Pamela Thomas-Graham.
