The Center for Energy, Marine Transportation and Public Policy, in Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, is a focal point for the study of economic, environmental, political, technological and other factors that affect the global production, transportation and consumption of energy. It builds upon the School's strengths in area studies (especially the Middle East, Russia and the Caspian Region), international economics, public policy and quantitative techniques for analyzing policy and management. In addition, the Center draws on resources elsewhere at Columbia, including the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the Business and Law Schools. The Center also benefits from Columbia's location in New York, the center of global finance and media. |

The mission of the Lenfest Center is to develop technologies and institutions to ensure a sufficient supply of environmentally sustainable energy. To meet this goal, the Center supports research programs across Columbia University to develop solutions that will satisfy the world's future energy needs. Most of the Center's work is focused on the technology and institutions needed for development of the three major energy resources sufficient to support the world's projected population in 2100 without increased carbon emissions: solar, nuclear, and fossil fuels combined with carbon capture and storage. |
