The Latin American and Hispanic Business Association (LAHBA) Conference aims to bring
together prominent leaders, students and members of the community to
discuss business, economic and political trends in Latin America.
Building on previous years, the theme for the 2009 conference will be
"Latin America in a Turbulent Financial Environment"
and will provide a forum for speakers and attendees to analyze the current
financial landscape and the various implications and opportunities set
for the region's development in the business arena.
As the US falls into recession and the world economy slows down, Latin American businesses and other institutions find themselves facing new challenges. Increasing macroeconomic uncertainties, lower consumer confidence and a freeze of the international financial markets are just some of the situations being experienced throughout the region. How are Latin American businesses dealing with these harsh conditions? What is the outlook for sustainability efforts and non-profit organizations? How are financial institutions in the region responding and what are the national governments doing to counteract the negative trends?
This year's conference will bring together industry leaders, students, academics and practitioners to discuss strategies and challenges facing organizations in this turbulent financial environment. Topics covered include an in-depth analysis of the financial situation, the measures being adopted by Latin American multinationals to minimize the impact of the global slowdown, the perspectives for sustainability and non-profit, macroeconomic challenges and their impact to the political landscape within the region.
Ticket holder are also invited to attend the post-conference party at Marquee's Red Room. Cover charge is included in the conference ticket price.
The aim of the
Latin American and Hispanic Business Association (LAHBA)
is twofold: (1) to promote friendship among Latin-American and Hispanic business
students and students interested in Latin-American issues and (2) to sponsor
activities that introduce students to the possibilities of employment in Latin America.
