The 2005 Columbia Business School Latin America Conference will provide a forum
for the discussion of the forces that forge the Latin America business landscape.
The title of this year's conference will be “"Business Opportunities
in Latin America” and it will address this main issue both from a
macroeconomic and a business perspective.
The first panel "Growth & Investment" will address the macroeconomic foundations
that promote and limit growth in Latin American countries. This block will count prominent
decision makers in the current and past economic development of the region such as Guillermo
Perry, World Bank Chief Economist for Latin America and the Carribbean, and Cesar Gaviria, former
General Secretary of the OAS.
The second panel "Financing Future Growth"
will address the issue of financing of business ventures in Latin America.
In particular, it will examine the role Latin American capital markets play
in the business development of the region. This block will count with financial
leaders in Latin America such as, Ariel Sigal, Deutsche Bank’s Chairman for Latin America.
The third panel "Business Leaders and their Success
Stories” will present the stories of business leaders who have
overcome the challenges of operating in the region and taken advantage of the various
opportunities the region affords. Participants include Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada,
Chairman of one of South America’s largest and most successful mining conglomerates.
