Andrew Hotz, Co-President
Prior to Columbia Business School, Andrew worked as a senior producer at a New York-based broadcast and commercial design studio (Trollbäck + Company) specializing in television network re-branding and commercial production. In Los Angeles, Andrew served as production supervisor at DreamWorks Animation SKG working on the Puss in Boots movie and the first CG-animation prime time sitcom “Father of the Pride” on NBC. This summer Andrew worked at IMAX Corporation in Business Development and on a new digital media start-up with executives from NBC/Universal, HBO, The Broadway League and a private investment firm in New York. Andrew majored in theater at Northwestern University and has lived in Chicago, Los Angeles and currently, New York.

Garen Thomas, Co-President
Garen worked in publishing as both an editor and author, and has gotten her feet wet in film production and theater development in New York City. Her most recent work, Yes We Can: A Biography of President Barack Obama, was a New York Times best seller. In her first year of business school, Garen was the Media Management Association AVP of Careers and Education,
 

LaurenFrasca

Lauren Frasca, VP of Careers & Education
Lauren comes to Columbia with six years of media experience in creative television/digital development. Having worked for both networks (Bravo) and independent content producers (Atlas Media, Wall to Wall Inc.), Lauren returned to business school in order to get a firmer grounding in the business of entertainment. Lauren is a Tufts grad (Go Jumbos!) and enjoys salsa dancing, oil painting and yoga in her spare time.

DouglasMartin

Douglas Martin, VP of Technology & Membership
After graduating from Brown University, Doug began his career as an actor in New York City, training at the William Esper Studio and working in independent film and off-Broadway theater. He also moonlighted as a songwriter and guitarist with his band, The Sunday Files, touring and recording regularly. This eventually lead Doug to start his own business, a music recording and rehearsal studio (and film production house) called Rough Magic. Founded in 2003 in Brooklyn, Rough Magic Studios has become a staple of the Greenpoint-Williamsburg music scene, hosting independent and major label recording artists including MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Ingrid Michaelson, Talib Kweli, Soulive and Matisyahu. Doug came to CBS as a J-termer in order to further his career as an entrepreneur in the Arts.

SusanGoodman

Susan Goodman, VP of Corporate Visits (East Coast)
Prior to CBS, Susan worked in the Motion Picture Department of the William Morris Agency in Beverly Hills. She also worked in production on both films and commercials. Her most recent experience was producing and directing an independent film, short films and theater in NYC. This past summer, Susan worked at Goldman Sachs in Private Wealth Management and will be returning there full-time after graduation.

OmariJinaki

Omari Jinaki, VP of Corporate Visits (West Coast)
Omari came to Columbia to switch careers and has had an amazing time doing so. Omari worked in business development at a medium-sized, high-growth consulting agency before school and since has interned at Sony Music Entertainment and Ogilvy & Mather in their Marketing Planning and Marketing Analytics divisions, respectively. Long-term he’d like to work in marketing strategy for a large entertainment media conglomerate or advertising agency, or in the media practice of a consulting firm. Outside of school Omari is an obsessive tennis fanatic and skilled in the art of cooking Dominican empanadas.

Gillian Ryan

Gillian Ryan, VP of Speakers & Panels
For the two years before CBS, Gillian was an artist manager at JGM, working with such artists as Five For Fighting, Dan Wilson/Semisonic, and Mike Doughty/Soul Coughing. Prior to this, she worked at both a major label (Columbia) and independent label (TVT) for over three years in both marketing and product management roles. This summer Gillian was an intern in the “360” corporate strategy group at Warner Music, a department focused on expanding the record label’s role in the music industry. Gillian graduated from NYU majoring in marketing and music, and hasn’t left the music industry or residence in New York since.

RobSchneider

Robert Schneider, VP of Speakers & Panels
Robert is a 2010 MBA candidate at Columbia Business School, concentrating in media management and marketing. Currently, he is interning with NBC Universal as an internal consultant for their sales / marketing organization. Prior to business school, Robert was a consultant for JSA Partners, Inc., where he specialized in private equity transactions. Before joining JSA, Robert served for six years as an airborne ranger with the 82nd Airborne Division attaining the rank of Captain. Graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a degree in comparative politics and computer science, Robert also earned certificates in Documentary Filmmaking and Film/TV production from Duke and New York Universities respectively. He is deeply interested in media convergence, digital distribution, and content creation and is the student member president of both the Producer’s Guild of America and their New Media Council.


Charles Battle, VP of Social Events
Charles is originally from Atlanta but has somehow managed to eke out an existence in New York City for the last five years.  Prior to CBS, the MMA, and various other acronyms, Charles worked for four years in the editorial department of Farrar, Straus and Giroux Book Publishers.  Before that, he studied poetry and received a Masters in Creative Writing from Boston University.  Having devoted multiple years studying the canon of modern American poetry, Charles figured business school was the next logical step.  He spent the summer of 2009 working at the TouchTunes Corporation, a digital media and entertainment company.  After graduation he is hoping to work in either media-based venture capital or consulting.  Otherwise he will be on fries at the Key West Diner on Broadway and 95th.

JamesWynne

James Wynne, VP of Alumni & External Relations
Prior to coming to business school, James worked for 6 years in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles working in feature film development, digital content production, network and cable television, and in representation for actors, writers, and directors.  Most recently, he was an executive in the Television Department of the William Morris Agency and also ran a small digital studio called Smog TV.  This summer, James was an associate at Endeavor Global, the social VC fund based in New York, and was assigned to a media and advertising startup in Brazil called Subway Link.

Ginny Yang, VP of Conference
Ginny started working in the music industry at the age of 17, interning with such companies as Rolling Stone and Sony Music Entertainment. After graduating from Brown, she started her career as a writer at Spin. She subsequently served as a web producer at MTV Networks and worked on such projects as the Video Music Awards, the Movie Awards and Think MTV. This summer, she interned at Slate and Bad Boy Records.

SelenaHsu

Selena Hsu, VP of Conference
Selena arrived in New York six years ago to get an MA in documentary journalism at NYU.  She was a news producer for CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, reported across China for the China Central Television, and covered the Beijing Olympics for NBC.  This summer she interned at the Associated Press in its Market Research department. She’s searching for the future in the business of journalism.  

 

Jason Feuerstein, VP of Conference
Prior to getting his MBA at Columbia, Jason developed and produced entertainment ranging from branded content to feature films.  This summer, Jason worked in the entertainment finance group of Union Bank in Los Angeles.

Lisa Becker
AVP of Corporate Visits (East Coast)
After graduating from the NYU’s Gallatin School for Individualized Study with a focus in Producing for Film & Television, Lisa participated in NBC Universal’s Page Program in Los Angeles.  She then joined the marketing team at Focus Features and Rogue Pictures in their media buying and research division.  Lisa most recently worked in the entertainment division of Radical Media, an integrated content company specializing in commercials, branded entertainment and documentaries.  As the coordinator of their Marketing and Programming departments, Lisa consulted in the creation of traditional television, online and on-demand properties.  She also developed multi-platform marketing campaigns, incorporating commercial, television and online content with outdoor media efforts.

SamanthaSolmonson Samantha Solmonson
AVP of Corporate Visits (East Coast)
Before coming to Columbia Business School, Samantha spent two years as a member of the Tech, Media & Telecom (TMT) Research team at Gerson Lehrman Group in New York City where she sourced TMT industry experts for buy-side investors seeking to broaden and strengthen their primary research initiatives.  In this role, she facilitated one-on-one consultations, custom reports, and in-person presentations to help clients gather information by engaging directly with industry experts, ultimately for the purpose of making more well-informed investment decisions.  Previously, Samantha spent a year in Paris, France working at Christie's, an art auctioneer, in the Department of 20th Century Decorative Arts, researching and preparing appraisal estimates.  Samantha graduated from Brown University in May 2006 and is a New York City native.  

Derby


Derby Anderson
AVP of Corporate Visits (West Coast)
After graduating from Georgetown, Derby decided to pursue her two passions: media and sailboat racing.  Derby managed PR for the US Olympic Sailing Team in China and has two years of marketing experience at the leading global sail manufacturer. While traversing this niche career path, Derby also managed Versus TV’s live studio, covering the America’s Cup in Valencia, Spain and wrote for Sailing World Magazine, to which she still contributes. At CBS, Derby is learning about the business side of media and hopes to become involved in corporate strategy and marketing in entertainment and sports. Derby is also a competitive sailboat racer. Over the summer, she and her team traveled to Sardinia where they won the Farr 40 World Championship.

SamSibble Sam Sibble
AVP of Corporate Visits (West Coast)
Prior to business school, Sam served as Manager of Co-Productions and Sales at The Film Sales Company where he worked on the financing and sale of such independent films as “Waitress” and “Born Into Brothels”.  Before joining The Film Sales Company, Sam was an agent trainee at the Gersh Agency, working in their talent department.  Sam is a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where he received a BFA in Film and Television Production, with a concentration in entertainment business. After business school, Sam aspires to work in the strategic planning or business development departments at a large entertainment media conglomerate.

Howard Stein
AVP of Corporate Visits (West Coast)
Howie Stein graduated from Vanderbilt University, after which he spent over four years as a consultant with Deloitte.  Focusing his client experience within the Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice, Howie served major telecommunications clients on strategic and operational issues.  Howie's client engagement experience included major transformational initiatives including program management, merger integration, product launch, and retail strategy across Customer Care, Billing, Finance, and IT functions.

RobertYacyschyn Robert Yacyshyn
AVP of Alumni & External Relations
Robert has worked at MTV for the past seven years in the production department, serving as Production Manager for the reality show "MADE" for the past four.  During his career, he has worked on several notable projects for the network, including "TRL", "Run's House", "Spring Break" and "MTV Video Music Awards".  He is currently a second year Executive MBA student, seeking to further his business knowledge in hopes of continuing to move up the corporate media ladder.

Eliza Howard
AVP of Careers & Education
Eliza graduated from Duke University in 2005 with a BA in public policy studies.  After graduation she worked for two years as an analyst at Goldman Sachs in the Technology, Media and Telecom investment banking group, where she focused on the media sector.  Following her time at Goldman, Eliza spent two years as a manager in the business development division of Warner Music Group. 
KatieRobinson Katie Robinson
AVP of Careers & Education
After graduating from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Economics, Katie spent 2 years working in the mortgage division of Citibank evaluating client financial portfolios.  In order to broaden her sales experience, she took a sales position at Warner Chilcott Pharmaceuticals, and was subsequently promoted to district sales manager.  In this capacity, she developed individual strategies for sales representatives based on market analysis, effective messaging, and core competencies.  Her post-MBA career focus is marketing/business development in film, music, or television.

Peter Enestrom
AVP of Speakers & Panels
Pete left his home country of Australia after high school to gain a degree in history at Yale University, where he developed his interests in media, music and popular culture. He then spent two-and-a-half years working at Microsoft, first for its search engine, Live Search (now known as Bing), and then for its display network, including online properties such as MSN.com and Facebook, where he managed the advertising campaigns for various Fortune 500 companies. Pete is also a passionate musician and is particularly interested in the overlap of music and technology.
EdwardFlanagan Edward Flanagan
AVP of Speakers & Panels

A graduate of Middlebury College, Teddy has worked in a variety of roles across the media industry.  Following graduation, he moved to the US Virgin Islands where he helped to found a new newspaper, The St. John Sun Times.  After guiding the paper out of the red ink, he returned to his native Massachusetts where he began a three-year stint as a television news producer at New England Cable News.  At NECN, Teddy produced Good Morning Live, a morning show covering everything from the 2008 Presidential election and War in Iraq to the Big Dig and the Boston Red Sox.  Before coming to Columbia, he spent a year at the New York-based boutique firm DiGennaro Communications, advising a wide range of media, marketing and advertising clients on press strategy and media relations.

Jared Stone
AVP of Technology & Membership
After graduating from the NYU Stern School of Business, Jared spent two years as a Business Analyst with Deloitte Consulting helping clients address critical strategic and operational issues. Seeking to broaden his experience in the media industry, he obtained a position in the Global Strategy department of McGraw-Hill. As a Senior Analyst, he prepared presentations for the Board of Directors, conducted extensive research on emerging web 2.0 business models, and assisted senior management in evaluating prospective acquisitions and alliances.
JennyHuang Jenny Huang
AVP of Social Events
Jenny is most recently from Los Angeles.  During her undergraduate years at USC, she studied media and dabbled in internships at MTV, E!, and various film festivals.  After graduation, she worked in market research before joining advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather.  While managing the Cisco account, she discovered a passion for new media and technology.  Subsequently, she joined a growing start up to build social media marketing plans for various clients.  During this time not only was she able to master the original Galaga and BurgerTime arcade games in the office, but she also gained a full understanding of the blogosphere’s role in today’s media landscape.  Jenny is a strong advocate of digital innovation and hopes to apply her passion and knowledge to help shape the evolution of the media industry.

 

Melanie Shanley
AVP of Conference
Melanie Shanley is currently an MBA candidate at Columbia Business School.  Prior to Columbia, Melanie worked in film and entertainment in Los Angeles as a creative executive at The Weinstein Company, and as Head of Development for GreeneStreet Films.  Melanie began her career in the technology investment banking group at Credit Suisse First Boston, and holds an A.B. from Harvard University.

After graduating from Brown University, Liz entered the book publishing industry, promoting titles for No Starch Press, a small independent house in San Francisco. She then moved to New York and transitioned into the editorial side of the business, working first at Algonquin Books, and most recently at Farrar, Straus and Giroux, where she edited and acquired history titles for its Hill and Wang imprint.

Angelique Barker
AVP of Conference
Angelique grew up in Maryland and graduated from Duke University in 2003. Before business school, she worked in Miami for five years as the VP of Marketing for an independent record label, SoBe Entertainment. At SoBe, she conceptualized and implemented detailed marketing plans for recording artists from various genres. Angelique also started her own online company, SweetSlap.com, which launched in November 2008.
