RECRUITERS
& SPONSORS
Columbia Business
School's Social Enterprise Club encourages public, private and nonprofit
organizations with a social purpose to recruit on campus, sponsor career-related
or social events, and participate as panelists at our conferences.
Recruit
on Campus
Members of the Social
Enterprise Club have a broad array of career interests
of appeal to potential employers. These include non-profit management
and non-profit consulting, for-profit entrepreneurial social endeavors,
corporate social responsibility and corporate philanthropy, social venture
capital and venture philanthropy, foundations, micro finance, government
and public finance, arts management, renewable energy, healthcare, education,
and community and international development.
Organizations looking
to recruit MBAs or participate in career events can:
Contact the VP of Careers;
Access the Social Enterprise resume book (a password protected pdf,
available by contacting the VP of Careers);
Contact Bruce
Lloyd at Career Services; and/or
Distribute job
postings online.
Be
a Sponsor
The Social Enterprise
Club's success depends largely on the support of public, private and
nonprofit organizations that share our social purpose. Organizations
that have sponsored our conferences and career panels in the past include
Merck, Honest Tea, and Bain & Company (with Bridgespan). To sponsor
an event, please contact the VP Events.
Speak
on a Panel
The Social Enterprise
Club invites individuals who work in the field to speak on one our many
panels or at our Annual Conference. Our members are eager to receive
your invaluable career-related advice and to hear about your experiences
working for social enterprises. Speakers listed in the Events
section are just a few of those who have participated in past panels.
To learn more about previous SEC conferences and panelists, or to participate
in one of our conferences, please contact the relevant student
officer.
Business
Plan & Consulting Assistance
Social enterprise
organizations and entrepreneurs looking for students to assist with
business plans, new social ventures or consulting support can find students
by:
Sending an email about your venture (with a description of the venture,
the type of assistance and skills required, and your contact details)
to the VP of Careers who can forward this
to club members or all MBA students;
Contacting the Small
Business Consulting Association (which has a nonprofit liaison);
Submitting a job posting
online for all Columbia MBA students. This can be for a part-time
or summer position. Students working over the summer may be eligible
for a CORP
fellowship;
Checking the Global Social Venture
Competition website and calendar. This competition provides an
online matching service for students and venture teams looking for
specific skills; and/or
Contacting the Lang
Center for Entrepreneurship. The Curriculum section lists classes
that may have students with an interest in your venture.
Students typically
select ventures and entrepreneurs to work with (for course work and
volunteer consulting projects) around the beginning of each semester.
However, students with a particular interest in your venture are likely
to respond to emails and job postings through out the semester as well.
